ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Hattiesburg Writing Institute was founded in 2017 in response to the rising number of K-12 students labeled with cognitive, emotional, and/or behavioral problems, learning disabilities such as ADD or ADHD, rising number of high school dropouts, and high school graduates unprepared for the workforce, career, or post-graduate education.
Hattiesburg Writing Institute offers some of the best writing professionals and educators from around the world.
Our mission at Hattiesburg Writing Institute is to educate and prepare students for proficiency in literary communication to meet the communicative challenges worldwide.
“Cultivate the seeds of curiosity and inspiration will grow. Our youth is our future.”
Our vision is to cultivate a community of critical thinkers, diverse, explorative, and insightful learners through the literary arts. Our goal is to prepare students for career and college readiness through student-centered learning, peer-review workshops, literary events, seminars, and professional mentorship. In a supportive learning environment, the Hattiesburg Writing Institute encourages students to discover, develop, and hone their own voice through multicultural texts, learning ways culture creates and transforms individual experience thus providing a space for social activism. Our hope is to cultivate life-long learners, literary pioneers able to add their voice to the conversation on human and social issues and make a difference.
Writing is no easy task. We are committed to teaching our students the creative writing process: literary technique, story-outlining, character sketches, and more.
Writing for All Stages!
We also teach writing techniques to young and beginner writers.
